Editorial team & standards
Every guide we publish is written and reviewed by people who help homeowners appeal their property assessments for a living — and held to a simple rule: if we can't verify it, we don't print it.
The Tax Appeal Pros help homeowners across the U.S. check whether their property assessment is fair and file a county appeal. Our editorial team reviews every guide for accuracy against how the appeal process actually works.
How we write and check our guides
Our guides explain how the property tax appeal process actually works — how assessments are set, how to check whether yours is fair using recent comparable sales, and how to file. We write in plain language for homeowners, not in legalese.
Because appeal deadlines, rates, and rules vary by county and change over time, we deliberately avoid stating a specific deadline or rate as a universal fact. Instead we tell you where to confirm the specifics for your own property — on your assessment notice and your county assessor's website. Every guide carries a visible “last updated” date.
Our standards
- • No fabricated facts. We don't invent statistics, dollar figures, deadlines, or citations. If a claim can't be verified generally, it doesn't go in.
- • Sourcing. Where a guide states a checkable fact, we point to where you can confirm it — typically your county tax office or state code.
- • Straight advice. If the comparable sales say you're already fairly assessed, we'll tell you not to appeal. We'd rather keep your trust than sell you a case that won't win.
- • Not legal or tax advice. We're an independent service, not a law firm, tax advisor, or government agency. Filing directly with your county is always free.
